Combat Apathy

Combat Apathy is the backbone ethos of Mountain2Mountain's programming.  Working with women and youth at risk, sex and human trafficking victims, modern day slaves, war victims, and child soldiers, we are combating apathy by empowering voice, illustrating value, and creating grassroots social impact action in communities around the world.

Mountain2Mountain combats apathy by connecting communities and cultures. We create voice and value to inspire action, creating a revolution of citizen diplomats.

Our Voice2Voice program launches in 2012. We will be working with at risk youth ages 16-22 in combat zones and post conflict zones while in parallel we'll be working in urban conflict zones in the US with youth at risk in the African American, Hispanic, and Native American communities.

Stage one is a citizen journalism initiative, activism, and leadership program, focused on developing voice, leadership, and citizen diplomacy. We will utilize a digital media platform for the stories and multimedia to provide global engagement and integrate a social media platform that will allow for direct interaction between the youth involved regardless of geography.

Stage Two involves a cultural exchange between domestic and international project communities and working alongside them in a joint social impact project.

Stage Three involves all participants developing a social impact program for their community so that their leadership skills, their voice, and their passion, coupled with their knowledge of what their community needs most (tackling sex trafficking, human trafficking, drugs, violence against women, lack of education, schools, etc.) without a western handprint. M2M then assists in the development of the projects, providing mentorship, funding, and implementation logistics where needed. Essentially connecting communities and cultures and sparking organic and sustainable social action and change from the youth voice. This means Mountain2Mountain isn't coming up with programs to fund from the Western perspective, we are seeding social impact and change from within and with the energy passion and insight of the upcoming generation.

Lastly, a student version will run in parallel as a service learning program for elementary and middle school students. This program would NOT feed M2M bottom line, but instead would mirror the programming of Voice2Voice at a student level; teaching citizen journalism, integrity, leadership, and each class or school that participates is challenged with creating a social impact action project or program for their community. So it would become essentially a student level wing of our programming. We are not asking our service learning program in the schools to be fundraising for M2M's bottom line - we are asking the bottom line to be social action.

Youth voice and global social impact action combined with student action running parallel will create a massive ripple of change in the US and internationally. Citizen diplomats creating grassroots change from the ground up, creating an impact of social action way beyond what any one organization like Mountain2Mountain could create.
