Women's Prisons
Dare to give women and girls a fighting chance.
Many women and girls are imprisoned in Afghanistan with their young children who live with them until they reach school age. Having been denied an education by husbands and families, most of these women are unable to read or write. They are castaways without family support or lives to return to when they are released.
Mountain2Mountain is working in women's prisons across Afghanistan. We partner with the Afghanistan Women's Educational Center (AWEC) to provide basic reading and writing skills and early childhood education. We are also working to expand our work beyond literacy and advocacy to provide vocational training and create opportunities and a chance at survival once these women are released.
